That "Cube" thing when you log into the character list is only a visual bug, when you enter the world, there are no issues.

the cube is actually a rubix cube.
it was used so players did not get bored before logging into the game, it was added around the time where the hyjal bug was huge, and nothing was loading in once you joined in.(has actually been there forever)
For the people with 2 rubix cubes, it means they have mastered the game and now are on level 2 of the cube where they have to try do 2 at once, using 1 hand on each.
Those with the purple gloves means that they are on the last level of the mini-game where they have to try and complete the rubix cube with slippery gloves on.
